Givenchy experiments with Novelty this Spring-Summer

A love-hate relationship with Givenchy Spring Summer Haute-Couture 2019 is inevitable

In one line, Givenchy Spring Haute Couture 2019 has given me a glimpse of the dresses I adore and some … not so much. Through its affair with originality, Givenchy has produced 42 fashion statements. The problem is that all of the fashion outfits are statements of its own. Wondering why a good quality such as that would pose a problem? Let me put it in simple and bold words,

There is No Consistency.

Every 3 outfits differ in styles and fashion to an extent that they appear to belong to different and distinct fashion lines altogether! Truth to be told, I am not a big fan of the order in which these pieces were arranged for the runway. Just when you see 2 outfits of similar trend and just when you feel that it is becoming consistent, you find that you are running in the path leading to NOWHERE when the third outfit is presented. The designer certainly had multiple schools of thoughts… and designs.

But do not dismiss the line so easily. Givenchy presents some of the most exquisite fashion pieces 2019 has ever witnessed. You can try to close your eyes but these pieces won’t escape from your mind and now, there is a good chance that your pockets are going to get a lot lighter.

I have chosen exactly 5 major trends/styles based on its impact on the audience and its memorability, just for you!

#1 Latex Wear for the Latent Hotness

A second skin, the latex wear featured for the spring/summer season is quite unusual. Givenchy braves its way to pair it with lace/net and solid colours alike. I am quite taken by one of its pairings. The “but” here would be that the other pairings, yes all the others, are not to my taste.

Why should you incorporate this trend? Latex is not my first preference in spring or in summer. It is tight and warm; then, there is a thin layer of sweat between the figure-hugging material and your skin that makes everything worse. But, if you are confident with your figure, give it a shine with the latex ladies! Latex loves your body and soon, the duo become inseparable to flaunt your impressive body.

How to incorporate this in daily fashion? Latex is easy on the eye when it is paired with solid colours. When matched with lace or net, the smooth and lustrous look of the Latex is contrasted bluntly. What about a full outfit in latex? You will look sharp but ensure that you also make it an indoor outfit. It is an outfit from the spy world. If you had to choose one, then go with latex for the pants. It will give you a slick look. Matched with heels or boots, you could make your day an inch more fashionable.

My Opinion: Out of the three outfits presented by Givenchy, I love the latex pants matched with the blazer. The blade of white on the blazer giving the whole outfit a sophisticated look. However, I would not prefer my latex pants to also be acting as socks and never would I wear socks and strapped heels (maybe, I’ll write about that another day!).

#2 Oversized Bows

If there is one trend you could not miss in the show, it would probably be this one! Givenchy presents the ultimate attention getter, the Oversized Bows. On a critical note, does it remind you of the Victoria Secrets’ Angel Wings too? I would say that it is similar but Givenchy takes a step forward to give the outfits angel/satan looks. Given that multiple new shows like Lucifer and Good omens are on the rise, this look will definitely become popular and I can bet that it will be featured in the red carpets.

Why should you incorporate this trend? Do you want to stand out everywhere you go? Then your search has come to an end! You can’t but be noticed when you wear these bows.

How to incorporate this in daily fashion? Frankly, I would not incorporate this in daily fashion. It would not fit well with a bag pack that you might need to carry or sometimes, even a hand bag can look awkward with this trend. A clutch would suit the bows the best. Not every outfit in your closet will suit this trend either. This is a delicate trend and it needs to be paired carefully. A single-toned dress would look the best with the bow.

My Opinion: This is a very tricky trend. It will not be for everyone. So, when you were it, you are also going to empower yourself with all the confidence you have because you are going to be different. People talk, people always talk. You got this one chance to give them something to talk about! On the flip side, you can probably wear this trend only once or twice – you don’t want the trend to define you!

#3 The Big “U”

Givenchy Spring Summer Haute Couture 2019 happened, this style happened. Givenchy may fool you into thinking it is an extra deep plunging neckline but if you look closely enough, you will notice the delicate layer of net completing the round neck.

Why should you incorporate this trend? It is a common thought that a little extra skin revealed can make you look that much more attractive and yes, it is true. That way, this outfit can make you look attractive.

How to incorporate this in daily fashion? I would say that this style suits few people. The petite ones can fit into this fashion as it accentuates the shoulders. The look is paired with skirts in the Givenchy collection. But, I believe that it will look better with parallels for a day out. Match it with shades and sneakers and you are ready for your road trip.

My Opinion: Personally, I am not a big fan of this style. It can make you look slimmer if you have small shoulders but on the other hand, if you are even a little on the plump side, this style can make you look stout. Having broad shoulders can also work unsatisfactorily. In the Givenchy lookbook, this is matched with thigh-hugging skirts. I am not a big fan of that either.

#4 Fringes Down the Runway

After the 90s, the fringes made a come back in 2017 and the trend still slays everyone. Givenchy is no exception. I must say that I am amazed by their styles this season. Givenchy has brought a new style of fringes in terms of length. Metallic colours seem to be the go-to pair with fringes in this collection.

Why should you incorporate this trend? It is perfect for any setting – light hearted day or an evening/night party! It gives you a very cheery appearance and it is perfect for the time when you want to let your hair down (pun intended).

How to incorporate this in daily fashion? Although Givenchy has given us multiple ways to style this trend, I would go with fringe tops than the whole outfit. Paired with jeans or tight bottoms will suit it well. I would not go for skirts as the top would also be flowing by nature and it is always nice to highlight at least one part fo your body! If you really want fringes in skirts, then go for a short skirt. A long skirt can weigh you down. If you don’t want to include metallic colours as a part of your apparel, then you can tune it into your accessories for your OOTD.

My Opinion:  Honestly, I was aways skeptical of fringes in apparel before I saw this haute couture. I love the pairing of metallic colours and fringes. I would still reserve colourful fringes only for my earrings, bracelets or perhaps footwear. Fringes goes with all different materials – I love its versatility.

#5 Monochrome or two-tones, you choose

Givenchy parades solid monochrome or two tone outfits. The colours include the iconic black and white duo and go on to range from Persian blue and Fuchsia to Sunny Yellow, Soft Lavender and shades of Ivory.

Why should you incorporate this trend? It immediately gives you a formal/semi formal look. The solid colours and strong hues gives you the appearance of a person who is not to be messed with. You can easily command an audience with this outfit.

How to incorporate this in daily fashion? It is easy to incorporate this in daily fashion. Everyday, you will see people in business wearing suits that follow this style. To make this look fashionable, you can sport one or two colours with difference in material or you can wear one colour with a pop of another colour. If you are pairing a light colour and a dark one, make sure that the light colour is on the area that you want to accentuate. For example, if you have long legs, you owe it to the world to wear a light coloured bottoms to show it off!

My Opinion: This is one of the easiest styles that we sport without conscious thought. After the seeing the oversized bows and the bi “U”, I see this as a realistic move by Givenchy as it is simple yet elegantly designed and it is something that any person regardless of whether they love taking daring fashion risqués or not, would wear.

And now, for my favourite dress in the collection ~ I just wish that she would have smiled!

That is Givenchy for you, darlings!
